This short film tells the story of The Quarantine Concerts – a decentralised live-streamed performance series operating nightly since late March
Chicago's Experimental Sound Studio – the non profit organisation which usually acts as a physical hub for music experimentation – launched its new project The Quarantine Concerts in response to the new limitations imposed on artists and venues in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The nightly series of live streams began at the end of March, and is set to run every night until at least the end of June. So far, the shows have featured performances by likes of Claire Rousay, Chris Corsano, Moreno Veloso, Mats Gustafsson, Joshua Abrams, Tara Middleton & D Hotep of The Sun Ra Arkestra, Jaimie Branch, Zeena Parkins, Joe McPhee, and many more.
The Quarantine Concerts video by Chicago based film maker Brian Ashby tells the story of how it began, puts it in the human context of the pandemic, and talks about some of the new aesthetics that are emerging from it. Watch the live streams, join the chat and donate to the artists via the ESS website.
