The contrabass clarinet player presents a new solo recording with an accompanying film

John McCowen is an Oakland based clarinetist, composer and performer. Having recently graduated from Mills College where he received guidance from tutor Roscoe Mitchell, the ex hardcore vocalist and member of Wei Zhongle is now releasing his third solo project, Solo Contra. The record is split into three tracks, but is paired with a continuous visual accompaniment directed, shot, animated and edited by Portland based independent filmmakers Dustin Houston and Sam Klickner.

“Chopper HD” is the concluding piece from Solo Contra, which is available now via Chicago label International Anthem.
