“Faust only existed at the very maximum three and a half years,” said one of the group's founding members Jean-Hervé Peron, speaking to Daniel Spicer in 2021. “71 to May 74. And that’s it.”

Despite Peron's declaration, various members of the band have continued to perform and record under the name since the mid-1990s. Most recently, Peron led a performance of their 1973 album Faust IV at Utrecht's Le Guess Who? festival, after being invited by guest programmer John Dwyer of US rock band OSEES.

“Faust is like a marriage,” said Peron in the same 2021 Wire interview. “There are lots of ups and downs. The more I think about it, Faust is an idea, a concept and an approach to music.” The project's latest live incarnation features pianist Yumi Hara of The Artaud Beats, guitarist Amaury Cambuzat of Ulan Bator, drummer Audrey Dechevre and others. In this video the new ensemble perform the tracks “Psalter”, “Just A Second” and “Jennifer”.
