The Richmond, Virginia record label shares footage of its eight hour marathon celebrating experimentation and community
The mutual aid-oriented record label and collective Grimalkin was created by Nancy Grim Kells to support and foster connections between queer and trans artists, listeners and their local communities and grassroots organisations.
Based in Richmond, Virginia, the label has produced over 60 releases, including several compilations and samplers. As the collective's constellation of artists continues to expand, this year Grimalkin presented its first music festival; an eight hour marathon event also live-streamed online.
In The Wire 465, Emily Pothast stated that although the unedited stream includes some vulnerable moments, “thinking about this festival through a lens of mentorship and mutual aid helps frame such glitches not as failures but evidence of artists pushing themselves out of their comfort zones, trying new things for an audience of friends”.
Here Grimalkin shares the archived eight hours of performances with The Wire, including appearances by Brunswick County’s Tiara & Andrew, cosmic rapper Ishtar Sr, and guitarist Infinite Bliss.
