Belgrade based Walkman alchemist Vladimir Lenhart and vocalist Tijana Stanković share footage of an intimate live session

“We are lured by these unrevealed beauties, often invisible behind its own borders of language and folklore,” says cassette collector and noise musician Vladimir Lenhart aka Lenhart Tapes, speaking to Miloš Hroch in The Wire 463. “There was quite a bit of irony in it when I started messing with folk songs. But now it is something very sincere.”

In their recent Wire interview, Lenhart and his collaborator, vocalist and violinist Tijana Stanković, discuss how their shared project came about; their research into and reinterpretations of regional Balkan folklore; and how their individual sounds interact with each other. “Tijana inspires me to put even more noise in our music,” Vladimir reveals. Stanković agrees: “When improvising, I beg him: don’t use any melodies”.

This recorded performance took place at Studio Krava 22, Belgrade in July 2021. The video was produced by Bad Memory.
