The Cleveland collective share a video for a track from their 2020 album The Cycle
This video – photographed and edited by longtime Mourning [A] BLKstar collaborator Nat Cherry – was filmed in Cleveland's historic bowling alley and venue Mahall’s. Taken from the Ohio collective's 2020 album The Cycle (voted number three in The Wire's Top 50 releases of 2020), the track “Deluze (Solange Say Remix)” has been given a new visual accompaniment to coincide with Pride Month.
“As we emerge from the isolation and intense rupture of the past year,” the collective say, “we make space for and celebrate our whole selves. We wanted to create a visual that was a nod to an era where artists like Sylvester James were not embraced and celebrated as their full selves even as they innovated in their brilliant design and inspired so many future artists who continue to push culture past the binary. The lyrics speak to the isolation created by the binary and offers the universal lament: “I want to be the lover that you need instead of the lover that you just don’t see”.”
