The Argentinian psych travellers share an exclusive new video filmed during their recent Wire cover shoot
“Any system can be useful but at some point it can turn into a cage," says Alan Courtis, one of the founding members of Argentinian group Reynols speaking to Emily Pothast in The Wire 459. “Working with Miguel has always been inspiring,” he says of the band's leader, vocalist and drummer Miguel Tomasín, who has Down's Syndrome, “helping to find that inner connection that comes before any rational conceptualisation: improvisation before improvisation.”
In their cover interview in the May 2022 issue of The Wire, Reynols members Roberto Conlazo, Courtis and Tomasín discuss their inclusive vision and nonlinear approach to making music, their collaborations with deep listening pioneer Pauline Oliveros, plus the countless sessions they've played together over the last three decades, the experimental avant garde ways in which they've chosen to release their recordings, and more.
This brand new video was filmed by Henrik Malmström during the first session of photos taken for The Wire 459 cover story. The track, “Manorla Acuplemo”, is taken from their upcoming album Tolin Asumer – recorded in Buenos Aires between 2018–19 and their first proper US release in almost 20 years.
The band describe the track as “a bite-size mid-tempo, almost blues, jammer, featuring Miguel's classic vocals-as-instrument style, and heavy tremolo-laden guitar”.
Tolin Asumer is released on 6 May by Carbon & Feeding Tube.
