Montreal based composer, improvisor and saxophonist Jason Sharp plays live at Suoni Per Il Popolo
Here’s improvisor Jason Sharp performing in August 2016, ahead of his new album A Boat Upon Its Blood. The event took place at Montreal’s Suoni Per Il Popolo. The bill also included Godspeed You! Black Emperor, whose Thierry Amar helped Sharp record his album.
Although new to Constellation’s roster, A Boat Upon Its Blood is not the first time that Sharp has appeared on the label. He performed in the orchestra featured on Sam Shalabi’s Land Of Kush and played in the band Matana Roberts used on her album Coin Coin Chapter One. He was also a session player on Thee Silver Mt Zion’s Kollaps Tradixionales (2010). Sharp uses custom built instruments and signal processing. He is also a saxophonist. This release also features Josh Zubot on violin and Joe Grass on pedal steel guitar, both of whom appear in the video.
A Boat Upon Its Blood is out now on Constellation.
