Japanese producer Shigeru Ishihara aka Scotch Rolex shares work from his residency at Uganda's Nyege Nyege studios

Tewari is the latest album by Berlin based Shigeru Ishihara aka Scotch Rolex, and is a culmination of his time spent at the Nyege Nyege artist residency during 2019. Ishihara's stay at the Kampala studios saw him collaborate with many of the artists based around the creative hub, including vocalists MC Yallah, Lord Spikeheart and Swordman Kitala, and producers Don Zilla and Chrisman – all featured on the album.

The producer is a frequent collaborator with artists across various genres. In 2020 Ishihara (as DJ Scotch Egg) released an album with Shanghai based electronic producer Gooooose. Previously, he has worked with UK shoegaze band Seefeel, Planet Mu founder Mike Paradinas and New York rapper Sensational. He is also half of bass duo WaqWaq Kingdom with Kiki Hitomi.

This video accompanies one of two tracks on the album featuring Lord Spikeheart, vocalist of Kenyan noise duo Duma. It was directed by Utku Önal & Hiro Tanaka.

Tewari is released by Hakuna Kulala on 28 May and is reviewed in The Wire 448, available to read now in print or online.
