As Rie Nakajima and Keiko Yamamoto release their second full length album as O YAMA O, the group's percussionist Marie Roux shares a new video featuring footage recorded in transit between gigs
Sculptor Rie Nakajima and vocalist Keiko Yamamoto team up with percussionist Marie Roux and violin player and visual artist Billy Steiger for their first album in five years. Produced by David Cunningham, Galo features Nakajima's object orchestra and Yamamoto's abstract narratives, influenced by Japanese folklore and everyday events, accompanied by bird callers, kalimbas, and more.
“The video is a collage of photos and films that each O YAMA O member gathered from all over the world,” says Yamamoto over email. “All private photographs old and new, assembled together by Marie Roux. When Marie shared the first draft she filmed the film through her laptop which gave the final film another beauty spot.”
Roux says, “The video is a collage of speeds... all kind, nothing and hiding and all. I always hear “Galo” as speed. A lot of the roads are from near Topolo and Italy, as well as China.”
