The Wire 442 cover stars share an exclusive new mix featuring many of their own productions and remixes
From Floorplan's 2016 Victorious, Detroit born Robert Hood's gospel-leaning project has also included his daughter, Lyric. Since then, the Alabama based pair have been DJing worldwide, working together in the studio, and continuing with their own solo work. Ahead of the recent release of Robert Hood's LP Mirror Man, Robert Hood & Floorplan shared The Struggle/Save The Children, an EP with specific relevance to the Black Lives Matter protest movement, with “The Struggle” featuring the voice of activist Tamika Mallory. “Save The Children” (which kickstarts this mix) pulls audio samples of a 1970s documentary film from Hood's collection, featuring musicians, actors and civil rights leaders such as Ossie Davis, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, and more. “We wanted to be part of the movement,” Lyric says in the duo's Wire 442 interview with DeForrest Brown, Jr. “We don’t sing. We don’t rap,” she says. “We don’t do spoken word, but we find samples.”
