Wire mix: FOQL

September 2022

To mark the release of her latest album Wehikuł, Polish musician and community radio co-founder Justyna Banaszczyk channels uncertainty and anxiety in a new mix featuring numerous underground acts from her home country

Hailing from the central Polish city of Łódź, Justyna Banaszczyk aka FOQL is co-founder of Radio Kapitał, the first community radio in Poland, and co-runs local experimental label Pointless Geometry, which released her debut album Black Market Goods on a limited cassette run in 2015.

For this new mix, recorded to mark the release of FOQL's first LP Wehikuł, Banaszczyk presents adventurous sounds by many artists from her own music community. Spanning experimental electronics, post-punk, dub, noise, and more, the mix grapples with mixed feelings, channeling ever-growing anxiety for an uncertain future.

"Everything seems to be wrong,” says Banaszczyk over email. “The world we've all dreamt about will most probably never happen. I try to be happy about my new album, but all I can do is worry,” she admits. “How to be happy during constant catastrophe? Not trying to be dramatic, but, hey – isn't it reality? I tried to catch the moment in this mixtape.”
