Wire mix: Aho Ssan

September 2023

The Paris based composer and producer compiles a mix featuring tracks by international fellow music travellers and a previously unheard cut from his upcoming album Rhizomes

“Every artist on the album is someone I met during the [last] years and had unique moments and conversations about the world,” says Niamké Désiré aka Aho Ssan to Antonio Poscic in The Wire 475, explaining the presence of a wide range of collaborators on his latest album Rhizomes.

Désiré's second album – which features contributions from artists such as Moor Mother, Angel Bat Dawid, Mondkopf, Blackhaine, and more – is as much a processing of his personal experience of lockdown as it is motivated by current politics: “I can’t start things without a purpose or without something that drives me, and usually what’s driving me is politics and the vision of the world,” he declares.

This mix features two pieces from Rhizomes plus tracks by musicians in his wide network, such as collaborating ambient musician KMRU, and Subtext label mates Emptyset.
