Wire mix: Ale Hop
June 2022

Ale Hop
The Peruvian artist and musician compiles some of the music that has inspired an upcoming live performance with cajón player Laura Robles
“Lately, I've been exploring the possibilities of doing mixes as a form of artistic research,” says Berlin based Peruvian artist and musician Alejandra Cárdenas Pacheco, also known as Ale Hop.
Following the release of Ale Hop's latest album Why Is It They Say A City Like Any City?, which features contributions from KMRU, Concepción Huerta & Tomas Tello and Raul Jardín & Sukitoa o Namau, among others, Pacheco continues to work in a collaborative vein for current project Agua Dulce which will be performed with Peruvian cajón player and multi-instrumentalist Laura Robles at Heroines Of Sound in Berlin between 7–9 July.
“In this mix, I dig into some of the sonic elements that inspired me while preparing for my upcoming live performance with Laura at the 2022 edition of Heroines Of Sound. Our performance, [like] this mix, starts with the rhythms of the Peruvian coast – where indigenous, Hispanic and Afro-descendant traditions come together – that we then manipulate and disarticulate using a hybrid (electric and acoustic) cajón and processing through electronic effects and synthesis modules.”
