Silent Sound

The artist duo Ian Forsyth & Jane Pollard have released a booklet and CD documenting the 2010 performance of their Silent Sound project held at Middlesbrough Town Hall on 7 March as part of the AV Festival (supported by The Wire).

According to Iain and Jane, the project was conceived as an "otherworldly experiment" in spirit channeling and mind control, influenced by 19th Century Spiritualist performances and the Victorian entertainers The Davenport Brothers. The performance incorporates music written by J. Spaceman and conducted by Matthew Wood, along with a custom built soundproofed 'spirit cabin' in which the artists can be seen reciting a spoken message which is fed through their 'Silent Sound machine' and then secretly embedded into the music as it is performed. Silent Sound is published in a limited edition of 1000.
