A new book devoted entirely to the writings of artist Tony Conrad has been published. Edited by Constance DeJong and Andrew Lampert, this is the first publication of its kind and spans the period 1961–2012. It features fifty-seven works including essays for small press, exhibition catalogues, anthologies, album liner notes and previously unpublished texts.
Writing on his own art covers The Flicker, Loose Connection, Four Violins, Articulation Of Boolean Algebra For Film Opticals, Early Minimalism, Yellow Movies, Slapping Pythagoras and Music And The Mind Of The World. It also includes thoughts on his peers Tony Oursler, Jack Smith, Rhys Chatham and Henry Flynt. As for essay subjects, they cover topics from horology, neurolinguistics and the historical development of Western music to media activism, network communications, censorship and global media.
