My Life Is A Gunshot

Joke Lanz documentary unpacks his art as source of meditation

Marcel Derek Ramsay’s documentary My Life Is A Gunshot explores the life and art of Joke Lanz. It reveals that Lanz was 13 when his father shot himself on the roof of their home: a trauma that would shape much of his life. The film explores this trauma, and delves into how Lanz has experienced becoming a father himself, unpacking the ways art can be a personal source of meditation.

As well as Lanz, the documentary features Shelley Hirsch, Christian Weber and other musicians in the artist's experimental and underground circles. Dates for its first screenings are: Zurich Kino Riff Raff (11 December), Bern Kino Rex (12), Winterthur Kino Cameo (13), Aarau Kino Freier Film (14), Berlin Kino Wolf (16 January), and Berlin Kino Brotfabrik (17). Screenings are also being organised for London and Vienna later next year.
