Adventures In Modern Music 3 March 2011

This week we talk guitars with Bill Orcutt. The short, sharp, shock of Orcutt's guitar was an instantly recognisable part of Miami post-hardcore unit Harry Pussy, but he slipped off the radar following that group’s split in the late 1990s. He returned with a bang in 2009 with the solo album A New Way To Pay Old Debts (just reissued on Editions Mego) where he picked up an old four-string Kay acoustic and made it sound like no other guitar on the planet. His explosive and visceral playing has made him one of the most exciting guitarists of recent years. Orcutt will be on the phone from his home in San Francisco discussing guitarists including Scott Dunbar, Carlos Montoya, James Blood Ulmer, Joseph Spence, Derek Bailey and Fred Gerlach, and we'll be playing an extensive selection of his favourite recordings.

Every Thursday 21:00–22:30 (BST), 104.4 FM for Londoners, streamed live at for the rest of the world.
