Malachi Ritscher free PDF publication

A free 16 page PDF has been published about Malachi Ritscher, the Chicago jazz expert who killed himself in an act of self immolation in protest at the war in Iraq in 2006. The extended essay was written by Chicago journalist Mark Fischer, with contributions and help from others.

Ritscher was, among other things, a dedicated documenter of the city’s jazz and experimental music from the early 1990s until his death, and recorded audio at two of The Wire's festivals at The Empty Bottle.

Thank you very much for sharing this. Just a tiny note, my first name is spelled Marc. The larger exhibition project on Malachi Ritscher, organized by my initiative Public Collectors, was first shown in the 2014 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art. For those who are interested, there will be an upcoming presentation at the Audible Gallery at Experimental Sound Studio in Chicago from October 17-December 14, 2014. Free copies of this booklet will be available.
