Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto to soundtrack Alejandro G Iñarritu’s The Revenant
Ryuichi Sakamoto and Carsten Nicolai aka Alva Noto are working on the soundtrack for Alejandro G Iñárritu’s new film The Revenant. Based on Michael Punke’s novel, it’s Iñárritu’s follow-up to Birdman, his 2014 film which featured a score consisting mostly of Antonio Sanchez’s solo drumming. The Revenant is set in the 1880s and stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a bear attack victim left abandoned in the American wilderness. Sakamoto and his longtime collaborator Nicolai will also be working alongside Bryce Dessner on the score.
The Revenant will be premiered on 25 December, with its worldwide release following on 8 January 2016. Sakamoto and Nicolai’s soundtrack will be released digitally by Milan Records on 25 December and as a CD in late January. A special vinyl edition will follow in March.
