On 14 June the Venus UnWrapped series at London’s Kings Place will present an evening celebrating African-American vocalist, sound poet, composer and educator Jeanne Lee (1939–2000). Throughout her career Lee worked and collaborated with a host of artists including Anthony Braxton, Marion Brown, Archie Shepp, Pauline Oliveros and John Cage. For this celebration Elaine Mitchener will be joined by Jason Yarde, Anton Lukoszevieze, Alexander Hawkins, Mark Sanders and Neil Charles to present a programme inspired by a range of Lee's work from avant garde sound poetry, experimental interpretations of jazz standards and Fluxus.
