Jardins Efémeros returns this July

Paradox will be the theme of the 7th edition of Portugal's Jardins Efémeros festival

The 7th edition of Portugal's Jardins Efémeros festival will take place this July. This year's theme will be Paradox and will feature a host of multidisciplinary events taking place in various venues in the city of Viseu. “The pieces created for this edition try to contribute to a reflection on humanist and democratic values, and to integrate values ​​of freedom, both individual and collective,” explains the festival. “We understand that it is urgent to raise the awareness of the population and of the artistic community alike in order to build a plural, united, just, hopeful and creative world at a time when the sustainability of the planet and human life are in a fragile equilibrium.”

The programme, which they are keen to note is designed for all ages, will feature Fennesz & Arve Henriksen, Murcof & Vanessa Wagner presenting Statea, William Basinski, Evan Parker, Stine Janvin Motland presenting Fake Synthetic Music, Sarah Davachi, SØS Gunver Ryberg; Richard Fearless of Death In Vegas, Superpitcher and many more. As well as performances there will be a series of activities for children as well as exhibitions, installations and more.

There will also be a mini-edition of The Wire's Off The Page hosted by Editor Derek Walmsley and Deputy Editors Emily Bick and Joseph Stannard, with talks with Sarah Davachi, Strange U, and a panel of players on the Portuguese improvisation and free music scene. Full details can be found here.

Jardins Efémeros will take place at various venues in Viseu, Portugal, between 7–16 July.
