Em records is releasing a series of live concerts performed by John Cage and David Tudor in Japan in October 1962. None of the recordings, made at the Sogetsu Art Center in Tokyo and at Mido-Kaikan in Osaka, have ever been previously released.
The duo played seven concerts in 1962, accompanied by Yoko Ono and Japanese musicians including Yuji Takahashi, Kenji Kobayashi and Toshi Ichiyanagi. Pieces performed include Cage's Variations II, 26'55.988" For 2 Pianists & A String Player, 0'00", plus work by Christian Wolff, Stockhausen, Toru Takemitsu and others.
John Cage Shock will be released as three CDs (volumes one two and three) and as a double vinyl. All are being released in Japan on 25 August. More details here.
