Jazzman reissue Lansdowne recording sessions after 20 year licensing struggle
Following what it describes as an “epic 20 year licensing odyssey”, the Jazzman label has announced it will release a 5LP box set of all five Lansdowne recording sessions by UK jazz outfit the Don Rendell/Ian Carr Quintet. Alongside saxophonist Rendell and trumpeter Carr, the group featured pianist/composer Michael Garrick and percussionist Guy Warren. Later Carr would go on to form the fusion group Nucleus.
Marked as the sessions' first official reissue, the release includes the albums Shades Of Blues (1965), Dusk Fire (1966), Phase III (1968), Change Is (1969) and Live (1969). They'll come remastered with replicated artwork and a booklet of photographs and interviews. The label reckons the total value of the originals comes to £6000 on the secondhand market.
The Complete Lansdowne Recordings 1965-1969 is released on 30 November via Jazzman. While you wait, listen to “Mirage” from the original version of Change Is.
