Triple LP set documents the first ten years of the annual Free Music Workshops in West Berlin
More material has been culled from the vaults of FMP Records for the third release from the BeJazz reissue series. Limited to edition of 200 copies, Workshop Freie Musik 1969-1978 is presented in restored original packaging and comes freshly remastered. It also includes an 140 page booklet with contributions from Steve Lacy, Misha Mengelberg and Peter Brötzmann.
Over three LPs the release documents the first ten years of the free music workshops in West Berlin, chronicling the evolution of European free improvisation. Note however, that there weren't any recordings made at the inaugural event in 1969, with first recordings coming from the 1972 workshop with the Schlippenbach Trio, Brötzmann/Van Hove/Bennink with Mangelsdorff, Frank Wright Unit, and Willem Breuker Orchestra. Also included is a 1975 session featuring Vinko Globokar’s Brass Group, a group with 11 trombones, a French horn, and tuba. The other 1975 recording is a trombone solo from Paul Rutherford.
