Erkki Kurenniemi 70th Birthday Releases

Finnish label Ektro Records is marking the 70th birthday of electronic music pioneer and instrument inventor Erkki Kurenniemi with what they describe as a "blind date" LP release, plus a cassette reissue. The LP, Rakkaus Tulessa (translated, means Love On Fire), re-edits two cassette recordings, with a backing track by Circle taped in May 1999, and a vocal by Kurenniemi recorded in 1972. The two recordings are mixed by Jussi Lehtisalo and Tuomas Laurila.

Elektro is also releasing DRY ’73-9-8: a cassette reissue of the first recorded experiment with Kurenniemi’s instrument Dimi-T, which converted brain waves into sound. The cassette is released on Ektro imprint Ruton Music in an edition of 100, and Rakkaus Tulessa is released on Full Contact. More info here.
