Night club flyer book launches crowdfunding campaign

Mike Pendegast chronicles rave promos in Flying Over England

A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to fund a new book by rave documenter Mike Pendegast. Called Flying Over England, it’s a history of club night flyers and posters from the 1980s and 1990s, a time when Pendegast was travelling to raves up and down the country. The publication is divided into two volumes. The first features more than 150 pages of flyers, and in the second Pendegast gives his account of that era.

“1991–93 was the golden age of rave art with flyers developing from photocopied, black and white scribbles of the late 80s to highly elaborate works of illustration,” declares the Kiss Kiss Bank Bank campaign page, where the book can be pre-ordered with a full refund guarantee if its target is not reached.

At the time of writing 41 per cent of the total has been achieved, with 21 days to go. The book is published in collaboration with Dukes Editions, and you can see a selection of its flyers in The Wire's online gallery.
