A new event series in support of local refugee causes starts up in West Wales in November called Gŵyl Nawr festival. “NAWR (meaning NOW in Welsh) is a new multidisciplinary concert series in Swansea of experimental music, free improvisation, film, lo-fi, free jazz, sound art, alternative folk and new music,” declares the festival, which was convened by Rhodri Davies, Jenn Kirby, Rose Linn-Pearl and Dan Linn-Pearl. “The aim is to offer an open and reflective space for an audience to experience new music in a welcoming and intimate setting.”

The line-up of this first edition features Wire contributor Clive Bell, Douglas Benford, Kevin Chan, Euros Childs, Matt Collier, Rhodri Davies, Medi Evans, GINKO, ANi GLASS, Ian Holloway, Adam Howell, Simon Kilshaw, Jenn Kirby, Matthew Lovett, John Rowley, Aura Satz, Swansea Laptop Orchestra, Richard Thomas, Ian Watson, and others. The festival’s film programme includes David Garner’s Between The Stammer And Le Mot Juste and Call And Response, Helen Petts’s Solo Soprano, and various Aura Satz works such as Oramics: Atlantis Anew and Little Doorways To Paths Not Yet Taken: Laurie Spiegel Film.

NAWR takes place at the Volcano Theatre on 20 November.

IDM’s Bogdan Raczynski has digitised his entire Rephlex back catalogue and put it up on Bandcamp. Currently residing in Canada, Polish electronic musician Raczynski is also a video game soundtrack composer and the self-proclaimed “black belt noodle chef” responsible for remixing Björk’s “Who Is It” from Medulla. He got the rights back when the label closed in 2014. Included in the reissues is 96 Drum n Bass Classixxx, Myloveilove, Renegade Platinum Mega Dance Attack Party Don The Plates and more.

A Kickstarter campaign has been launched to get the ball rolling on a new documentary about Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth, a fellowship founded in 1981 by Psychic TV’s Genesis Breyer P-Orridge. Directed by Jacqueline Castel, A Message From The Temple will be told by those who were involved. Drawing on new interviews and the personal archives of its members, it sets out to document Thee Temple from its inception to its demise. It also plans to examine the legacy that this chaos magic clan left behind.

The project needs cash for travel and production costs, as well as the preservation and restoration of Thee Temple’s archive, licensing rights, and more. Depending on your pledge, you might receive a Psychic cross earing, a message from Thee Temple, a signed copy of the Psychic bible, or even a haircut from Genesis Breyer P-Orridge's original barbers. The film makers are also asking for those who came into contact with the group to share their stories. More information on that can be found on the Kickstarter page.

The project is being overseen by Sacred Bones and Dais, the latter of which recently made the entire Psychic TV back catalogue available digitally.

UCP is about to publish a new book documenting the New York loft jazz scene of the 1970s. Called Loft Jazz: Improvising New York In The 1970s, it’s by Michael C Heller, an ethnomusicologist, music historian and Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Pittsburgh. It’s the first full-length publication to examine the loft collective, covering the young avant garde improvisors who chose to abandon the commercial sphere in order to develop alternative venues in the disused factories and warehouses spaces in Lower Manhattan.

We Want Sounds has a new release coming up: a compilation of rare spiritual jazz and funk culled from Bob Shad’s Mainstream Records label. Shad produced more than 800 records in his 40 year career, working at numerous labels such as his own EmArcy, Brent, Shad and Time Records, as well as Decca and Mercury. Musicians he worked with include Art Blakey, Sarah Vaughan, Max Roach, Oscar Peterson and Cannonball Adderley, alongside such composers as John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Luigi Nono, Morton Feldman and Iannis Xenakis, not forgetting the likes of Lou Reed and Janis Joplin. He set up Mainstream Records in 1967 and then a few years later Mainstream Red Lion, which ran through the 1970s and featured artists like Buddy Terry and Hadley Caliman. Shad recorded until 1978 when at 58 he decided to close down his label and move into film production in Los Angeles.

This compilation was compiled with his grandchildren Mia and Judd Apatow ­– that’s Judd Apatow, the film maker responsible for such blockbusters as The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up. Judd also wrote the sleevenotes with record collector Matt Robin. The release date is scheduled for 18 November; the tracklist, meanwhile features Blue Mitchell, Sarah Vaughan, Alice Clark, Carmen McRae and others. More information is available via We Want Sounds.

Oneohtrix Point Never has released a promo video for “Animals” from last year’s Garden Of Delete album. The video stars Hollywood icon Val Kilmer of Top Gun, Willow, The Doors, The Island Of Doctor Moreau and The Ten Commandments: The Musical fame.

Shot in Los Angeles and directed/edited by Rick Alverson (Entertainment, The Comedy) the clip features a woozy Kilmer bobbing his head as 0PN's track burbles around an LA home, owned, according to the end credits, by one Dan Finfer. The video's minimal storyline was devised by Daniel Lopatin and Alverson.

Club To Club festival will take place this November. The five day programme will feature a range of artists including DJ Shadow, Tim Hecker, Autechre, Laurent Garnier, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Jon Hopkins, Arca, Jesse Kanda, Andy Stott, Mura Masa, RP Boo, Lorenzo Senni, Clams Casino, Powell, Elysia Crampton, Lafawndah, Shye Ben Tzur & Jonny Greenwood's Junun project with The Rajasthan Express, and more.

A series of special events will be running alongside the festival including a Warp To Warp block party event, Red Bull Music Academy Stage held in a former Fiat factory, 72 hours of non-stop programming from Alsolute, and an Unsound-curated stage. As well as this, The Wire contributor Aurora Mitchell talks to one of our recent cover stars Gaika about Ghetto Futurism.

#IAMC2C takes place in Turin, from 2–6 November 2016, coinciding with the city's Contemporary Art Week.

Tusk festival kicks off today at 5pm. Running througout the weekend, the festival will take place at Gateshead's Sage venue, and include various performances, talks and film screenings. What's more, Tusk will also be streaming the event online at tuskfestival.com/live-stream.

The line-up includes Mark Carroll, Skull Mask, Guttersnipe, Wolfgang Voigt, Usurper, Ashtray Navigations, Hen Ogleddd, Silent Servant, Senyawa and more. The Wire's Editor Derek Walmsley will also be returning to the festival this year to host a selection of talks: a Saturday session with Phil Todd and Melanie O’Dubhshlaine of Ashtray Navigations and another on Sunday with Rully Herman and Wukir Suryadi of Senyawa.

A couple of films will be screened including Mark McNeil’s mini-doc on the Los Angeles Free Music Society and Tyler Hubby's Tony Conrad: Completely In The Present. An exhibition of Sir Richard Bishop's Captured In Asia photography and another featuring artwork from Gateshead cassette label Matching Head will also be happening, alongside Sam Grant's Prime Rhythms Installation.

Unsound Krakow has announced more surprises for this year's gathering. The festival has, in partnership with Forum Przestrzenie, announced a new club venue situated underneath Hotel Forum. Named 89 – referencing the end of communism in Poland, and the year the club was built – the venue will host two pre-opening parties during next week's activities.

This news follows their recent final line-up announcement which detailed an extensive daytime programme including the usual schedule of talks, presentations and panels, and workshops and an installation by Young Echo's Sam Kidel. The final bill includes Rabih Beaini plays Vincent Moon, Equiknoxx, DJ Marfox back to back with DJ Nervoso, Puce Mary, Resina, Kamixlo and many others to the bill.

The venue, which used to be a strip club and still features its original decor, will host afterparties throughout the day. They kick off at 6.30am with Tin Man on Saturday 22 October, with the following day starting at 7am with Poland's FOQL. Other acts will include Debonair, Lechuga Zafiro b2b Pobvio, Florentino, Kosel, Miles Whittaker and Not Waving.

There are supposedly two rules at 89: no guest list and no photos. But we are told it “looks like something from a David Lynch movie and it's going to be awesome, we promise.”

Unsound will take place from 16–23 October. The Wire's Derek Walmsley will also be there hosting a number of panel talks including Disruptive Rhythms with DJs and producers associated with Mexico's NAAFI collective (1pm, 20 October), Body Sculptures with curator Ilan Volkov and Erik Enocksson and Loke Rahbek of the Danish/Swedish group Body Sculptures (12.15pm, 21 October), and Exit Strategies with Gaika, Felicita and booking agent Katarzyna Stuczyńska (4.15pm, 21 October). Please note that entrance to 89 will cost 25 PLN and cost not included with the festival pass.

This Friday the Tate Modern will host an evening dedicated to the late American artist, musician and film maker Tony Conrad (1940–2016). The evening will begin with the debut UK screening of Tyler Hubby's feature length documentary Completely In The Present, a film that Matt Krefting described in The Wire 390 as "an unpretentious portrait of a singular artist" whose work was "monumental in its impact". The evening continues with Conrad's widow Paige Sarlin playing alongside David Grubbs and Jenny Walshe as Tony Conrad's Amplified Drone Strings, and director Tyler Hubby will be in conversation with senior curator of film Andrea Lissoni.

Conrad died in April this year. Back in 2008 he conceived a performance for the Tate's Turbine Hall entitled Unprojectable: Projection And Perspective. Completely In The Present will be embarking on an international tour throughout the rest of 2016 and into 2017.
