Daniel Lopatin, James Ferraro, Laurel Halo & Samuel Godin Collaborate With David Borden

Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never), James Ferraro, Laurel Halo, and Samuel Godin have collaborated with David Borden (Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Co), for the next edition of RVNG Records's FRKWYS series: FRKWYS Vol 7.

The five track album is a large group collaboration, which came about as a result of Lopatin's admiration for Borden's Music For Amplified Keyboard Instruments. It was recorded over two days in Brooklyn, in August 2010. FRKWYS Vol 7 will be released on LP and CD on 17 July. More info and samples here. Listen to "People Of The Wind Pt 2" below:

FM3 Mint Their Own Currency

FM3, the creators of the Buddha Machine, have minted their own currency to be bundled with their forthcoming compilation HeXieFo, and distributed randomly in the packaging of other FM3 objects.

FM3 released a coin last year, in a limited test run that was distributed solely in China. Coins are legal tender for use in the FM3 shop, including Buddha Machines, tickets to live shows, T-shirts and more. Two coins can be exchanged for one Buddha Machine, a T-shirt, or an FM3 CD.

The new coin is larger in diameter than last year's test, and has a print of Zhang Jian's profile on one side and the Buddha Machine speaker and names of the HeXieFo contributing artists on the flip side. The coins are made from hand carved moulds, and printed in a run of around 3000, with plans to mint a smaller coin in 2012.

HeXieFo is a project featuring over a dozen Chinese experimental musicians, scheduled for release in November this year (October if you're in China).

RIP Wild Man Fischer

Outsider musician and Smegma collaborator Larry 'Wild Man' Fischer has passed away from heart failure at the age of 66. Fischer developed schizophrenia and bipolar disorder as a teenager, and recorded a number of solo records. Fischer's manic peaks took the form of creative bursts of energy, which he called the "pep".

He played instruments, sang and wrote songs for Smegma, and the pair recorded an album together: Wild Man Fischer And Smegma Sing Popular Songs. He opened shows for Alice Cooper, The Byrds, Zappa and Solomon Burke, and busked on Sunset Strip. Fischer also collaborated with Frank Zappa, appearing on Zapped, although the pair eventually fell out with one another.

The New York Times reports that Fischer was committed to an assisted living facility in 2004. Josh Rubin, a filmmaker who made a documentary about Fischer, and used to speak to him around 20 times per day, said: “After he went to the facility, the phone calls just stopped. The pep was gone.”

Underground Resistance Double EPs Reissued

Underground Resistance (The Wire 285) have announced they will be reissuing five double 12" titles from their back catalogue as single EPs. The releases being re-bundled are: Hi-Tech Jazz, Dark Energy, Electronic Warfare, The Turning Point, and Interstellar Fugitives.

The 12" EPs will feature only "the most essential tracks from each double pack", and have been remastered by Dietrich Schoenemann at Complete Mastering. A post on the Submerge site says this is due to the fact that all original stamping plates have been used, added to high shipping and production costs. There are no release dates on the 12" EPs yet, except for the promise that they are arriving "very very soon". More info here.

Throbbing Gristle: Industrial Records Reactivated, Reissue Plans And Discounted Stock

Throbbing Gristle are officially reactivating Industrial Records, after their contract with Mute expired this time last year. All four members (including Sleazy Peter Christopherson, before he passed away) voted to reactivate the label, with plans to re-release the Throbbing Gristle back catalogue.

The reissue schedule kicks off with a series of deluxe remastered vinyl editions and digital downloads (AAC, MP3, FLAC) of A Second Annual Report, DOA The Third & Final Report, Heathen Earth, 20 Jazz Funk Greats, and Throbbing Gristle's Greatest Hits, slated for release on 26 September in runs of 2000. TG have also bought all existing Mute stock, which is available (some of it discounted) as of this week via the TG site.

The Quietus also reported in April that Chris & Cosey would be finishing Throbbing Gristle's final album: a reinterpretation of Nico's Desertshore, which Sleazy Pete had been working on in Bangkok before he died.
