Roy Harper charged with child sex offences

Roy Harper has been charged with nine counts of the sexual abuse of a girl, from when she was 12. The offences, committed between 1975 and 1977 in Herefordshire, relate to one victim. The BBC reports that Harper, now in his early 70s, will appear before Hereford Magistrates' court on Monday, after being interviewed by police at Heathrow in February. Further details at BBC.

Cube Cinema releases feature film to raise money

Bristol's Cube Cinema is producing a film comprised of one minute clips from 70 contributors, including Jandek, Goodiepal, Leyland Kirby, Richard Youngs, Stewart Home and Jem Cohen, among others. The Film That Buys The Cinema is being made to raise money in the hope of purchasing the building that the cinema is housed in, as the lease is now coming to an end. Individuals can become a contributor by submitting their own clip. More details on submissions, and everything else, here.

Saxophonist Arthur Blythe was diagnosed with Parkinson's eight years ago, and after a recent spell in hospital, followed by time at a rehabilitation centre, he is being released. Blythe's home requires considerable refits to meet his needs, and to raise funds Gust Tsilis is asking for a $10 donation in return for a download of "The Human Condition", a piece recorded for a film soundtrack in 2007. Intersect: Cafe Oto, The Vortex and Servant Jazz Quarters hosting a night of improvisations

Intersect, a night of improvisations, is set to take place across Dalston in December, with a cast of over 30 musicians and performers. It's £5 (£8 on the door) for a wristband that gets you in to all the events. Saxophonists Rachel Musson and Julie Kjaer will play in a trio with Steve Noble, plus various configurations of Angharad Davies, Alex Ward, Yoni Silver, Jennifer Allum, Orchestre Elastique, Paul Abbott, Phil Julian, and others. Laibach cover Serge Gainsbourg on new EP

Everyone's favourite Slovenian military industrialists Laibach have released an EP ahead of a new album next year. The EP, S contains a cover of Serge Gainsbourg's "Love On The Beat", recorded at their Monumental Retro-Avant-Garde show at the Tate last year. New album Spectre will be released in February 2014. David Keenan giving Jandek lecture in Vienna

Wire contributor and Volcanic Tongue co-owner David Keenan is giving a lecture about Jandek in Vienna on Monday. Titled "No Success Like Failure", it's part of a day of talks on the notion of success in music. The lecture takes place on 11 November at the Vienna Arnold Schönberg Center. London's first modular synth shop opens

London's first modular synth shop opened this week, and on Saturday will be hosting a night of analogue improvisations with an anonymous roster of knob twiddlers who have released on the following labels: Clone, Rephlex, R&S, Shameless Toady, Hemlock, New Flesh, Hessle, 50 Weapons, Nonplus and Breakin Records. The event takes place at Crate Brewery's Brewshed in Hackney Wick. More details here.

Ryuichi Sakamoto judging ¥500,000 sound art prize

Sapporo International Art Festival has an open competition for sound works on the theme of city and nature. The winning entry will be played at SIAF sites and around the city during the festival, including the entire Sapporo Ekimaedori Underground Walkway and the former Sapporo Court Of Appeals. Submissions may be entered between 1 February and 31 March 2014, and the winning entry (judged by guest director Ryuichi Sakamoto) will receive ¥500,000. More details and submission guidelines here.

The Wire hosting Q&A with Rafael Toral at Semibreve

The Wire's Chris Bohn will be hosting a Q&A with Rafael Toral at Semibreve festival in Portugal, discussing Toral's recent Manifesto For Electronic Music. Janek Schaefer will also be hosting a Saturday afternoon 'eyes closed' concert which incorporates his forthcoming album Lay-by Lullaby, and two workshops have also been added to the festival's programme, on Max/MSP and building live visuals for musical performances. Semibreve runs 15–17 November in Braga, Portugal.
