Hijokaidan collaborating with J-Pop group BIS

Japanoise stalwarts Hijokaidan have formed BIS Kaidan, a collaboration with six piece J-Pop-rock group BIS. Hijokaidan founder Jojo Hiroshige has a history of engaging with Japanese popular culture, most recently releasing the Hatsune Kaidan EP, recorded with Vocaloid hologram Hatsune Miku in January. The album will be relased on 7 August, and contains a number of covers of existing tracks by BIS. More via Avex.

Dan Hancox traces Grime's early days in e-book

Wire contributor and author Dan Hancox is publishing an e-book on Grime's early days, titled Stand Up Tall: Dizzee Rascal And The Birth Of Grime, as a Kindle Single. Ten years ago Dizzee, Wiley, and Tinchy Stryder gathered at the top of a London tower block to battle it out on the mic. In the decade since, some of those MCs now find themselves in the UK charts, whereas others (like Dizzee's adversary Crazy Titch) are in prison, and the places they gathered have been altered or demolished to make way for London's Olympic Park. Stewart Lee, Shazia Mirza and others for Resonance FM fundraiser

Resonance FM holds its annual fundraiser at the Bloomsbury Theatre on 11 September, with a bill put together by Derek Bailey fan and occasional Wire contributor Stewart Lee (who also performs on the night). Also on the bill are Shazia Mirza, Rob Newman, Lewis Schaffer, Rosie Wilby and Baconface. Tickets are £20 and all profts go towards keeping Resonance FM on the air. More details and tickets here.

Genesis Breyer P-Orridge book published in plush linen box with 7" singles

First Third books is publishing a deluxe edition of Genesis P-Orridge's book, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, which documents her life with Lady Jaye, time with Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV, plus early photos. It also includes three 7" singles, plus a poster and art catalogue, bundled together in an orange linen bound box. It's been produced in an edition of 323 copies and costs £233. This limited version will also be numbered and signed by Genesis. A standard edition of the book will be published in an edition of 990 copies. More here.

ECM release 6CD box set Selected Signs III-VIII

Off the back of last year's exhibition in Munich, ECM records is releasing a six CD, seven hour long box set of music included in the show, with work by Steve Reich, Arvo Pärt, Meredith Monk, Christian Wallumrød, Paul Bley, Evan Parker, Barre Phillips, Frode Haltli, Gary Peacock and Wadada Leo Smith, among others. The box set, Selected Signs III-VIII, comprises mostly previously released material from the ECM catalogue, and like the exhibition, aims to show ECM's connection to other areas of the arts.

Robert Wyatt, Eddie Prévost & John Hopkins interviewed for 1960s counterculture documentary

A documentary on the 1960s counter culture and its impact on The Beatles has been released - Going Underground: McCartney, The Beatles And The UK Counter-culture. The documentary includes a number of new interviews with Robert Wyatt, Eddie Prévost, Barry Miles, Pink Floyd producer Joe Boyd, Indica gallery owner John Dunbar and others. The documentary is centred around the International Times, and a number of its editorial staff are also interviewed including its editor Barry Miles, founder John Hopkins, and writer Mick Farren. Sun Ra photos and ephemera to be exhibited in Edinburgh

A collection of photos of Sun Ra and his Arkestra backstage and in concert will be on show in Ediniburgh next month. The images and ephemera are by jazz photographer and writer (and long-time Wire contributor) Val Wilmer, and Rolling Stone photographer Baron Wolman. The Sun Ra exhibition, titled The Immeasurable Equation, runs 2–27 August in Edinburgh's Summerhall Arts venue The Long Corridor. More here.

Berlin's Festaal Kreuzberg closing after fire

On 21 July a fire broke out at Berlin venue Festaal Kreuzberg (a venue often used for CTM festival and ICAS events), forcing the venue to close until the damage is repaired. The fire broke out at 9pm on 21 July, and nobody was hurt bar one fireman who suffered light injuries. The Necks announce one track album, Open

The Necks will be releasing a new album on 6 September, titled Open, which includes just one track that stretches to over an hour. As a result it's a CD only affair, out via their own Fish Of Milk imprint in Australia and New Zealand, and in Europe and Japan via ReR (North American label TBA). The Necks hit Europe for a string of dates this October and November (in Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham then London 1–4 November), followed by an Australian tour February–March 2014, and a short European stint in the second half of March 2014.
