Jonny Trunk rereleases 1969 Radiophonic Workshop classroom aid The Seasons

Jonny Trunk's next release will be a Radiophonic Workshop reissue from 1969, titled The Seasons. The Seasons was originally made as part of the BBC's Drama Workshop series by composer David Cain, and was intended as a classroom aid.

Trunk describes The Seasons thus: "The album was issued briefly as a teaching aid for the modern thinking 1960s classroom. The idea was to play the album and get the school children to dance, improvise, think and create to the sounds and words… The album sold in tiny quantities when it came out and was quickly deleted by the BBC. Even the BBC Archive doesn’t have a copy."

Plans for the reissue have been in the pipeline 18 months. It will be released on 16 January on CD, download, and in a limited vinyl pressing. The sleevenotes for the record include an essay by Jon Brooks (aka The Advisory Circle), and two of the original slides which could be ordered by teachers to use during lessons. Matthew Shipp and Barb Januszkiewicz launch Kickstarter campaign

Matthew Shipp and Barb Januszkiewicz have launched a Kickstarter campaign to complete a film about Shipp, shot by Januszkiewicz. The 45 minute long film, titled The Composer, aims to highlight the relationship between Shipp and his piano. Pledge rewards run from a phone call from Shipp and Januszkiewicz or film credits, to a private dinner and a solo concert with the artists.

Januszkiewicz says: "I'd rather have one dollar commitment from 100 people than $100 from one individual, as that helps build a community of patrons and a larger support group. This whole experience has been exhausting yet at the same time totally stimulating. And very risky. With Kickstarter if you don't make your goals you don't get a penny of the funding. But the best art comes from taking risk."
