Sound System Scratch

Pressure Sounds label are set to release a new album of Lee 'Scratch' Perry/Upsetter tracks entitled Sound System Scratch. The compilation is made up of remixes of tracks originally recorded at Perry's legendary Black Ark Studios in Kingston, Jamaica during the 1970s which have only ever been heard at sound system dances. Sound System Scratch will be available as CD or double vinyl (which comes with a 7" single, Dub Plate Pressure) directly from Pressure Sounds from 31 July.

Richard Youngs: Beyond The Valley Of Ultrahits

Prolific vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Richard Youngs is set to release a new album on 20 July. Beyond The Valley Of Ultrahits resulted from a challenge by friend and collaborator Andrew "Paz" Paine to make a pop album and was originally released in 2009 as a very limited edition CD-R on Paine's Sonic Oyster label. This reissue has been remastered and is available on Jagjaguwar from 20 July on vinyl and in digital format.

To celebrate the release, Youngs will be performing a special "greatest hits" set along with the entirety of Beyond The Valley Of Ultrahits at London's Luminaire, 25 July, with guests Neil Campbell (aka Astral Social Club), Dylan Nyoukis and Spider Stacy (tickets available here)

Hallogallo 2010 And Napalm Death At Supersonic

Birmingham's premier festival for Noise, Metal, avant rock, supported by The Wire, has added Michael Rother's Hallogallo 2010 to the bill, joining Godflesh and Swans as headline acts. Hallogallo, which features Sonic Youth drummer, Steve Shelley, Benjamin Curtis and Aaron Mullan, will perform the music of Rother's Krautrock outfit Neu! Also, Birmingham's own grindcore pioneers Napalm Death will be making their first ever appearance at Supersonic Festival. Supersonic Festival takes place 22–24 October. Adventures In Modern Music

Adventures In Modern Music on Thursday 15 July presents a breakdown of Chicago beats, with Derek Walmsley joined on the line by writer, blogger, photographer and Chi-town resident Dave Quam. His mix will present a history of Chicago styles from old school to new, taking in House, proto-Ghetto House, Juke, Footwork, from the Muzic Box to DJs Nate and Rashad and beyond, and he'll be talking about Chicago's love affair with the beat. Rhys Chatham: A Crimson Grail

Composer Rhys Chatham is set to release a new album. A Crimson Grail (2005) was recorded in 2009 in New York City. Originally scored for as many as 400 guitarists, and composed specifically for the basilica of Sacré-Coeur in Paris (the city Chatham now calls home), this version utilises 200 electric guitars, 16 electric basses, and percussion. A Crimson Grail will be released 13 September 2010 on Nonesuch Records.

For The Ghosts Within

Robert Wyatt, Gilad Atzmon and Ros Stephen have collaborated on a new album, For The Ghosts Within. The album features Wyatt originals along with standards such as "In A Sentimental Mood", "Round Midnight" and "What A Wonderful World", with string quartet, alto saxophone and "the universal rhythms of the night". For The Ghosts Within will be released by Domino Records 11 October, available on CD, vinyl, and as a digital download.

Boredoms: 77 Boadrum

Japanese noise group Boredoms are set to release a DVD. 77 Boadrum documents a concert orchestrated by the Boredoms of 77 drummers at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn on 7 July, 2007. Filmed and edited by Jun Kawaguchi, the DVD collects together footage shot by Kawaguchi along with clips uploaded to YouTube by fans, and other web-TV sites. The concert featured musicians including Boredoms frontman Yamantaka Eye, David Grubbs, Aaron Moore, Alan Licht, Andrew W.K., and Brian Chippendale amongst others. The DVD will be available in the UK on Thrill Jockey Records from 7 September.

Taylor Ho Bynum Bicycle Tour

Cornetist, composer and member of NYC's Thirteenth Assembly, Taylor Ho Bynum, is set to embark on a tour of New England, USA, by bicycle. The Acoustic Bicycle Tour is a two week, carbon-neutral series of concerts which will take Ho Bynum through all six New England states, featuring him performing with Anthony Braxton, Magdalena Gomez, Lisa Saffer, Mark Harvey and the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, and his own groups, the Taylor Ho Bynum Trio, the Taylor Ho Bynum Sextet and Positive Catastrophe. Volatile Frequencies

Conference in conjunction with the MazaJ Festival Of Experimental Middle Eastern Music. Subtitled "Topologies Of Authority, Technology And Production In Contemporary Middle Eastern Music Practices" this one day conference will investigate music, sound art and musicology from and about the Middle East and North Africa. There will also be a second day of discussion hosted by The Wire as part of our ongoing Salon series.
