After his recent appearance on the Danish television show den 11. time (the 11th hour) where he provided a suitably unhinged music lecture on computer music, bamboozling his audience with a number of his intricate creations and awing them with a barrage of interlinked theories, facts, stories and music knowledge, Gæoudjiparl van den Dobbelsteen has put together an enhanced version of the entire show with an additional specially created soundtrack. Field recordist Chris Watson has been commissioned to produce a sound installation for the AV Festival in Newcastle

Field recordist Chris Watson has been commissioned to produce a sound installation for the AV Festival, to be held from 29 February–9 March in Newcastle, UK. Entitled Whispering In The Leaves, the installation will seek to recreate the sonic environment of the South American rainforest, using multiple surround sound speakers and recordings taken from Watson’s archive. The installation will be held at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens.

Freak folkies MV & EE have announced a UK tour for this month, with 13 dates planned across the country. Playing as MV & EE And The Golden Road, the tour starts in Cambridge on 4 February, and bassist/violinist Samara Lubelski will appear with the group on the first three dates. An album documenting a date on a previous European tour, Meet Snake Pass And Other Human Conditions, has just been released on the Singing Knives label, and is reviewed in this month's (#287) Soundcheck.

The International Short Film Festival Oberhausen has announced a call for entries of music videos as part of its MuVi Award strand. The emphasis is on visual conceptions, stories and techniques, regardless of musical genre. The works should be produced after 1 January 2007, and the deadline for entries is 1 March 2008. Laibach have been feted in the cult comic Absolute Kingdom Come.

Laibach have been feted in the cult comic Absolute Kingdom Come. In its new edition, Laibach's frontman Milan Fras appears as a new superhero in the story. Jem Finer wins award

Jem Finer has won the PRS Foundation for New Music’s British Composer Award

Jem Finer has won the PRS Foundation for New Music’s British Composer Award in the New Media category for his Score For A Hole In The Ground. Using the power of the weather, Jem Finer's piece combined principles of acoustics with sculptural design, using gravity and water as elements in the composition.

Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard have directed the promo video for the new single by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard, who feature in this month's Cross Platform piece (#287) have directed the promo video for a new single by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. The track, "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!" is released on 18th February, and is taken from the album of the same name released by Mute on 3rd March.

The video was filmed in a single take at Pinewood Studios, with rear projections filmed in New York, London and Melbourne. It can be seen now on the official band web site and on YouTube.

A dedicated Wire-reader has added a mix of tracks contained in The Wire's Top 50 records of 2007 on his weblog

Swen Emmerling, who produces a comprehensive Wire-orientated weblog, has put together a mix containing tracks from The Wire's Top 50 Records of the Year chart on his site. The mix includes 82 tracks from 34 of the 50 albums featured.

A festive 50 from The Wire and Borderline radio

In what has become something of a Xmas/New Year tradition, Borderline: Musik Für Grenzganger, a show on the German radio station Freies Radio Kassel 105.8 FM, will broadcast a series of programmes in December and January based around The Wire’s top 50 records of the year for 2007. The shows will go out between 8-9pm CET, with the first broadcast on 21 December and the remainder on 28 December, 4, 11 and 18 January. The shows will be available as Real Audio streams at www.borderline-extra.de three days following the original broadcast.

70 Years of David Behrman

Veteran composer and artist David Behrman is to celebrate his 70th Birthday at
New York's Roulette

David Behrman has been actively composing and creating sound and multimedia installations since the 1960s. Founder of the Sonic Arts Union (together with Robert Ashley, Alvin Lucier, and Gordon Mumma), he has also had a continuous association with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company since 1970 in which he currently serves on the Music Committee.
