Martin Creed at Sadler's Wells

The conceptual artist headlines Frieze Music 2009...

The Turner Prize winning conceptual artist Martin Creed will be choreographing a dance performance to his own music score as part of London's forthcoming Frieze Art Fair, an international commercial art market exposition organised by the contemporary art magazine, Frieze. Work No. 1020, inspired by the critic and ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev's Les Ballets Russes's collaborative work, will be performed during the fair 16 & 17 October at Sadler's Wells Lilian Baylis studio. Creed, who has titled his work with sequential numbers since 1987, also has a music group, Owada, with similarly minimalistic tendencies.

Q&A sessions with Philip Jeck, Faust and Kode9...

As part of the Numusic festival this weekend in Stavanger, Norway (9-13 September) The Wire's own Anne Hilde Neset will be in discussion with sound artist Philip Jeck (10 Sept, 6PM), Krautrockers Zappi Diermaier and Jean Hervé Peron of Faust (11 Sept, 6PM) and London based Hyperdub label head honcho Kode9 (12 Sept, 4PM), with time for questions from the audience at the end of each event. The Q&A sessions will also be recorded for broadcast on London's premiere community arts radio station Resonance FM. The Wire will also have copies of our magazine and other merchandise on sale at the Stavanger Platemesse, a record fair taking place alongside the festival, Saturday 12 September, 10AM-4PM.

Making Contakt

A new DVD documentary release following the multimedia tour...

Contakt, a series of multimedia 'concept' events celebrating ten years of Richie Hawtin's m-nus label has been documented on film by Hawtin, Ali Demirel, Niamh Guckian and Patrick Protz, and is now set for release in late 2009, having its first screening 25 September at London's Institute of Contemporary Art. The premier will include two screenings of the documentary Making Contakt which features live performance footage, interviews with those involved and other backstage goings-on from the tour along with a discussion between Hawtin and visual artist Ali Demirel after both screenings. London ICA, 25 September, screenings at 8:30PM & 11PM, £8/£7.

Richie Hawtin and his M-nus crew come to London's Brixton Academy with their custom LED lighting installation and surround sound setup filling up the main hall with a fitted dance floor. Along with Hawtin, Magda, Troy Pierce, Marc Houle, Gaiser, Heartthrob, JPLS, Ambivalent, and Barem will appear with support by Rebekah Aff. Evan Parker curates The Stone

British saxophonist curates NYCs The Stone...

British free improvising saxophonist Evan Parker will be curating performances during October at the New York City club The Stone, a performance space dedicated to the experimental and avant-garde, run by John Zorn. Parker is set to appear with Richard Teitelbaum, Okkyung Lee and Peter Evans, Milford Graves, George Lewis, Sylvie Courvoisier, Ikue Mori, Joe McPhee and John Zorn amongst others. New documentary on sound art is now online with contributions from artist Seth Cluett, curator Benedict Drew, Arika's Barry Esson, The Wire's Anne Hilde Neset, Richard Whitelaw of Sonic Arts Network and others

Sound in Context is a short documentary exploring the unique practice of sound within the visual arts world. Through conversations with a number of key art institutions/galleries, artists and curators working with sound in the UK and abroad, Sound in Context allows practitioners to discuss some of the issues of presenting and exhibiting sound in the gallery and contemporary art domain. Live Connections: PRS funds for live electronic music

The foundation of the royalty collecting society offers up funds for live electronic music...

PRS Foundation, the new music promotion and funding wing of the the Performing Rights Society (a royalty collection society acting on behalf of UK songwriters, composers and music publishers) has announced that funds are available to be distributed amongst artists who perform live electronic music. Live Connections is a scheme which offers funds towards one-off live performances of electronic music, looking for proposals "that demonstrate innovation in the live presentation of the music: for instance, in the use of unusual venues, a strong visual presentation or new methods of performing live." Applicants should be UK based acts (individuals or groups) who create their own music and are looking to perform projects during 2010. Click here for more information.

Instant Chavirés petition against funding cuts

A petition to campaign against funding cuts to the Paris venue

Paris's Instant Chavirés venue, which was one of the host venues for The Wire's 20th anniversary concert series in 2002, has had to cancel its autumn season of events as a result of having much of it's funding cut. Stones Throw label boss Peanut Butter Wolf has created a mix in conjunction with the launch of new boutique label Five Day Weekend. 45 Live is a 19 track voyage through the archives of labels such as Enjoy, Sleeping Bag, Fresh, Cold Chillin, Strong City, Nia and Idlers, about which Mr Wolf says "As a kid growing up in San Jose, CA when all this stuff was coming out, I was hooked and half a lifetime later I still am." Experimental and DIY sound and music-making in Bath...

Media Art Bath presents Staging Sound 2.0, an exploration of new artistic activities which use DIY methods to produce, record and broadcast sound art and music and its relationship with the internet in sharing music and ideas. The hands-on programme focuses on three strands of DIY sound production: 'Field', 'Scavenged' and 'Homemade' featuring citywide Guerilla Busking, sonic infiltrations along with a new work by artist Matthew Olden amongst other events open to the public to participate in.
