Jean-Claude Vannier To Release First Album In 20 Years, Plus Finders Keepers Archive Compilation

Serge Gainsbourg's musical arranger Jean-Claude Vannier will be releasing his first album in two decades via the Twisted Nerve label. Roses Rouge Sang is the first new material from Vannier since 1990. It will be released simultaneously alongside a compilation of archive works by Vannier, titled Electro-Rapide, on Twisted Nerve sister label Finders Keepers.

Jean-Claude Vannier's 1972 soundtrack to an imaginary film, L'Enfant Assassin Des Mouches was the first Finders Keepers release in 2005. Roses Rouge Sang and Electro-Rapide will be released on 24 October. The title of the new album refers to the flowers Vannier grows. He says: "I have grown roses in my garden for a long time. They are with me like mysterious women loving, hating, elegant and misbehaving."

In other news for the labels, Finders Keepers and its sister imprints (Bird, Twisted Nerve, B-Music, and Battered Ornaments) lost an estimated 90% of their stock in the Sony DADC warehouse fire. To raise funds to replace stock the labels are releasing a series of ten compilations on CD and MP3 called Make Do And Mend. The first four will be curated by Jarvis Cocker, Demdike Stare, David Holmes and Gruff Rhys, and feature tracks from across the label's catalogues. Jarvis Cocker's compilation is available now here.

Maria Minerva Releases Full Length Follow Up to Tallinn At Dawn

Maria Minerva (aka Maria Juur) has released her follow up to cassette release Tallinn At Dawn on Not Not Fun this month. She says of the record: "Cabaret Cixous is a sequel to my tape Tallinn At Dawn and the 12" "Noble Savage". Sequel is the right word because all the tracks on these three releases are from the same time period, mostly produced before I even became affiliated with Not Not Fun, between late 2009, and early 2011."

Cabaret Cixous was recorded in both Tallinn and London, and mastered in LA. The cover artwork is by Estonian designer Ronald Pihlapson, and Not Not Fun has also released a video for the track "Lovecool" by New Feeling Industries, aka Spencer Longo from LA (who also made the video for the LA Vampires track "So Unreal"). Watch it below.

Maria Minerva will be performing her first live show later this month: London Shacklewell Arms, 22 August.

Compilation Planned And Campaign Launched To Support Labels Affected By PIAS Fire

The fire at the SonyDADC warehouse, used by indie distributor PIAS, has left many small labels with severely depleted stock, some reporting losses of 90%. In reaction to this, and to help prevent smaller labels going under, a campaign called Label Love has been launched.

As part of the response to the fire, and in collaboration with Label Love, Adrian Mules (@adge_uk) is planning to put together and release a compilation of material by those affected. Mules says: "What I'm trying to do is work alongside the Label Love events to pull together a download compilation album from the labels affected by the riots. In the short term the aim is to raise awareness and money. In the longer term the aim is to promote those labels and hopefully provide ongoing stability from new listeners who discover acts through the compilation."

The project was announced this morning, and so is in the early stages of development. Any bands or labels who would like to be included or want more information can get in touch with Adrian via Twitter.
