Dinosaur Jr album recalled

European copies of the groups new album Farm are recalled due to a technical fault...

People who bought the new Dinosaur Jr album Farm in CD format in Europe can now get a replacement version as the original was mistakenly duplicated at 3dB too loud. Owners of the noisy album can get the correct version here. Along with the quieter mix, album returnees can get a free ringtone version of Dinosaur Jr's single "Over It" as an apology for the inconvenience. The group have also announced a London date on their forthcoming UK tour: 25 September at London's Koko. Full tour information is available here.

Mira Calix & Malcolm Middleton on BBC

Mira Calix teams up with Malcolm Middleton on BBC Radio 3's Late Junction...

DJ, composer and Warp recording artist Mira Calix is set to team up with Malcolm Middleton, former member of indie group Arab Strap, for an installment of BBC Radio 3's Late Junction. The show, which will feature the first live performance together of brand new pieces created online by Calix and Middleton over the past few months, is the seventh in a series of monthly collaborations organised by Late Junction. BBC Radio 3, 90–93FM, 13 August 11:15PM–1AM (BST).

An evening of discussion with the New York City based artist focusing around his latest work The Conductor, a six part video installation "that breaks down and re-composes the visual and aural language of hip-hop music videos and top hits." As part of rhizome.org's New Silent Series, a programme of events, screenings and discussions about contemporary art, culture and new technologies taking place every second Friday of the month. When the Sublime Frequencies European tour hit Berlin, its hosts, Club Transmediale, set up a series of talks and discussions, including The Wire's Marcus Boon giving a talk on ethnopsychedelia, to support live sets by Group Doueh and Omar Souleyman.

All the material, live sets and talks, has now been archived online on the Transmediale site.

Tompkins Square & Tim Buckley live

Tompkins Square label releases Tim Buckley live recording...

25 August will hear the release of Tim Buckley - Live at the Folklore Center, NYC - March 6th, 1967 a hitherto unreleased recording made by the folk impresario Izzy Young at his New York City Folklore Center, a nexus of the West Village folk revival scene in the late 50s and 60s. The 16 track album (six of which are Buckley compositions that have never appeared on any studio or live album) will also be accompanied by a transcript of an interview conducted with the singer and songwriter Buckley by Young over 17 & 18 March 1967.

Sound of Ebb: Submit a sound

"What is the sound of the recession?"

Sound of Ebb, an open source sound series focusing upon sound artist's responses to global economic crisis, has an open call out for artists to create a work in sound responding to the question "What is the sound of the recession?". Submitted work can take the form of field recordings, compositions, radio plays, soundscapes or pieces of music and should be 30 seconds to five minutes in length. All works will be uploaded online for free listening and sharing and selected submissions will be exhibited and distributed in a free downloadable compilation by LOUDSPKR and Sound and Music. Deadline is 31 July for submissions to be included in an exhibition at Volume gallery in New Cross, London throughout August, final deadline is 31 August for consideration of inclusion in the compilation. Canada's NAISA (New Adventures In Sound Art) are putting out an open call for submission of work on the theme of 'home' to be used in the 2010 programming for their annual Deep Wireless, Sound Travels, and SOUNDplay festivals. Categories of work accepted are: Radio Art, Electroacoustic Music & Sound Art, 'Videomusic' and Installation Art. Applicants can be of any age and nationality and must submit work by 30 September, 2009. Click here for more details.

Netmage 10: call for participants

Tenth edition of the international live media festival calls for participants...

The tenth edition of the Netmage festival has an open call out for participation in its International Live-Media Floor, the main section of the interdisciplinary arts festival program. Participation is open to projects that use electronic, electroacoustic, analogue and cinematic means to produce visuals and sound. Birdcage: Zeedijk

Amsterdam's mobile sound project...

Birdcage, a mobile sound project presents Zeedijk, an 'appropriation' of a shop front on a Chinese street in Amsterdam. The event will consist of four stages being constructed within the shop where musicians Audrey Chen, Wun Thong, and Byungjun Kwon –all experimental musicians active in America and Europe– will perform their work which can only be seen and heard by the audience through the shop's windows.
