Shortlist 2009

The Shortlist 2009, a competition for young composers and sonic artists has put out it's annual call for submissions. Up to thirty artists will be selected to receive professional development, promotional and performance opportunities for three years. Works submitted may be "acoustic or electroacoustic, installations or pieces for live performance, and for western or non-western instruments." Tom Waits, Kool Keith & NASA

A project by Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon under the moniker N.A.S.A. (North America South America) has recently produced a collaboration between Tom Waits and Kool Keith. The song, entitled "Spacious Thoughts", will be released sometime in 2009 and will also feature collaborations with Kanye West, Chuck D, David Byrne, M.I.A., KRS One, Karen O, Wu-Tang, Santogold, Lykie Li, Jurassic 5, Cee-Lo, Cool Kids, Fat Lip, Sizzla, Q-Bert, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, George Clinton and Spank Rock amongst others. John Zorn & Richard Foreman: Astronome - A Night At The Opera

John Zorn has teamed up with director Richard Foreman to produce Astronome: A Night at the Opera which will be opening next year at Manhattan's Ontological-Hysteric Theater. Resonance Projects Presents An Evening With Otomo Yoshihide.

Resonance Projects present a rare performance by the influential Japanese musician at Cafe Oto in Dalston, North East London. Sound Mapping Montréal

Concordia University's Electroacoustic Studies Student Association (CESSA) has recently launched a website in an attempt to initiate the ongoing sonic mapping of Montréal. Unprocessed sound files can be uploaded to the site by the public, and then organised into a browsable tagging system according to date, location, equipment, sound sources, and several other aspects.

Electrosound is a combination of live electronics and audio-visual performance curated by the artist Jo Thomas. This concert explores the diversity and untamed nature of today's Electronic music culture. It draws upon artists that use Micro-sound, Audio Visuals, Electro Minimalism, Dub, live electronics and improvisation as an expression of their individual voices. Touch Label Artists On BBC's "The Fallen"

BBC TVs new series on servicemen and woman who have died while in Iraq and Afghanistan will feature music by artists from the Touch Music label including Oren Ambarchi, Biosphere, Fennesz, Ryoji Ikeda, Jacob Kirkegaard, BJ Nilsen, Rosy Parlane and others. The documentary by director Morgan Matthews - which according to the BBC records every single death over the past 7 years - will air on Saturday 15 November 9pm (GMT) BBC 2.

Roulette TV New DVD Release

New York City's Roulette have recently released their television series about new music onto DVD format. This years episodes feature interviews and performances with Marilyn Crispell, Andrew Cyrille, Oliver Lake, Lois V Vierk, Joan La Barbara, Blue Gene Tyranny, Kathleen Supove, Phoebe Legere, Margaret Leng Tan, and David Behrman.
