In celebration of 40 years of surround sound electronic music, Sound and Music/Bmic has released Recovery/Discovery beginning with Henry Birtwistle's 1970 composition Chronometer, which utilised recordings of Big Ben and the Wells clock from London’s Science Museum. Other artists featured on the album are Mira Calix, Jonathan Harvey and Javier Alvarez. BBC Radio 3 will also be featuring the project on the Hear and Now program, February 21, 10:30PM

The Wire's resident cartoonist and illustrator Savage Pencil presents a new exhibition this month. Sav X presents Gold Sabbat - new automatic works on paper depicting dreams inspired by the Hexen ceremony - runs from Tuesday 24 February to Monday 23 March at The Atlantis Bookshop in London. The exhibition is open Monday to Saturday 11am till 6pm

London's Kinetica Museum for kinetic, electronic and new media art will be presenting it's first art fair in late February. Along with a host of galleries, collectives and other organisations presenting their work, there will be a programme of screenings, tours, talks, workshops and performances. Author and Wire contributor will be discussing the interplay between art, pop and fashion and the role it played with the formation of Roxy Music. The evening (which coincides with the release of Bracewell's book on the group) will include a film about Roxy Music fans from the 1970s and a free glass of wine. As a response to the London ICA's closure of their Live Art and New Media department last year, two artists, Ant Hampton and Tim Etchells, respectively directors of Rotozaza and Forced Entertainment, have joined together to create True Riches a virtual interdisciplinary intervention of proposals to 'not' take place in and around the ICA until the end of 2009. The spoof is intended to ridicule the ICA's decision to close the venue's live art department. Events 'programmed' include late night lectures in the ICA bar, debates on the underground, film screenings, food stalls and more. For more information and to download a programme, click here.

Beginning in New York City on April 16, TG will go on to play at the Coachella Festival in Palm Springs on the 19th, then to LA on the 21st, San Francisco on the 23rd, Chicago on the 25th. In NYC and Chicago they'll be performing a live soundtrack to Derek Jarman's film "In The Shadow Of The Sun" and be holding regular signings with "TG USA 2009 Merchandising" Check out their website for full details.

Max Neuhaus, percussionist and influential sound artist has died, according to the Houston Chronicle yesterday. Born in Beaumont, Texas in 1939 Neuhaus spent his early career as a performing musician, touring North America with works by composers such as Pierre Boulez, John Cage and Stockhausen, by the mid 60s Neuhaus had decided to stop performing live and focus his work on sound installation. One of his most important early works, Public Space from 1966, connected up a radio station with live telephone lines so callers could ring in and broadcast themselves, an idea that Neuhaus would use in 1977, expanding the broadcast range to 190 radio stations across the US.

California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) has received a $500,000 grant to go towards the building a new music pavilion on its Valencia, California campus. Descriptively entitled "The Wild Beast" after composer Morton Feldman's metaphor for creative energy, the centre will host a wide variety of music and performance events alongside providing more space for CalArts's Herb Alpert School of Music.

Over the years Walker was a fixture in the early 60s Greenwich Village folk scene, studied with Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan, was musical director of Timothy Leary's Millbrook estate, and in 1966 released Rainy Day Raga, which has since become a seminal folk raga album.
