The Atlanta Poets Group magazine As Long As It Takes is calling for submissions of sound poetry, scores for sound poetry and essays on sound poetry in/of/against the tradition(s) of Ball, Schwitters, Henri Chopin, Jandl, Cobbing, The Four Horsemen and the Fylkingen Group. All work that has been selected will appear in the magazine and be available for download from the magazine's site under the Creative Commons Attribution Non-commercial Share Alike license. Reinhold Friedl’s co-operation with zeitkratzer-drummer Maurice de Martin, "Volksmusik", will be performed at the Taktlos festival in Zürich, Switzerland, tomorrow night (6 June) at Rote Fabrik, Aktionshalle.

To celebrate the fourth anniversary of its move to new premises in Dalston, East London, the much feted Vortex club is launching a new membership scheme. The scheme aims to help punters access the Vortex's nightly programme of new jazz and contemporary music for less and to help the venue develop fresh and radical musical projects. Standard membership costs £50/year and provides two complimentary tickets, 50% discount on subsequent member's tickets and discounts at other Dalston businesses.

It started off as a sound installation in 2006 but has now developed into a self-organising system of intelligent neural music. Olle Cornéer and Martin Lübcke are behind the Bacterial Orchestra which is due to perform this Saturday at the Volt Festival, Uppsala, Sweden. The original installation consisted of several audio cells. Every cell would 'listen' to its surroundings and picks up sounds, trying to play together in a musical way. The musical material came from the background noise, people talking or sounds played by other cells. Public Epidemic No 1 (2009) is a generation of the installation where each cell lives on an Apple iPhone and interacts with cells on other iPhones. Be part of a world wide sound pandemic. Reclusive doom metallers Corrupted will be playing two rare UK shows this coming July. First up will be an appearance at Birmingham's Supersonic Festival on 25 July followed by a performance at London's Scala on 26 July with Sunn O))) duo Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson's Thorrs Hammer and The Accused. Karneval im Land der Cetacean (as part of the Absolutely Free Festival in Graz, Austria) taking place over three days and celebrating "the intelligence and consciousness" (of Dolphins and Whales, we can only suppose) will feature perormances by Ignatz, James Ferraro, Brew Abuse, Partkdolg, Cotopaxi, Mik Quantius, P.A.R.A. and Dolphins Into The Future. Jon Savage, author of the punk history England's Dreaming, will be interviewed by The Wire contributor Michael Bracewell at Waterstone's, Gower Street in London on 10 June. The evening coincides with the release of The England's Dreaming Tapes, a collection of outtakes from Savage's book and interviews with major players from the early days of punk.

New shows announced include Mike Patton appearing with Fred Frith (18 June) guitarist Marc Ribot will team up with Evan Parker on sax and Han Bennink on drums for an improv session (16 June) Kieron Hebden (Four Tet) will appear with drummer Steve Reid and Mats Gustafsson on sax (20 June) Antony Hegarty (of Antony & The Johnsons) will be appearing with the Yoko Ono Plastic Band (14 June) James Blood Ulmer (16 June) Patti Smith appears with and The Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra (18 June) and the Master Musicians Of Jajouka will perform free shows throughout the festival on the Riverside Terrace. Also, Southbank will be hosting The School Of Harmolodics an intensive week-long course (14-20 June) in the Royal Festival Hall's Spirit Level for musicians, dancers and other artists interested in exploring ideas of making art inspired by Ornette Coleman's philosophy of 'Harmolodics', visiting tutors include Patti Smith, David Murray and Fred Frith. Video director and sound researcher Raquel Castro has released a documentary about sound ecology and the 'sonic life' of people, featuring interviews with artists, musicians, physicians, musicologists, architects and theorists including Peter Cusack, Rafael Toral, Max Dixon, Carlos Alberto Augusto, Janek Schaefer, Christoph Cox, Allen S. Weiss amongst others. Castro, whose previous work includes Pro Memória, a documentary series in which she collected oral histories of different Portuguese communities, produced Soundwalkers to be presented at the recent Miami Subtropics 20, Chicago's Listening to Our Planet and the World Forum For Acoustic Ecology (WFAE) conference in Mexico City, and now can be seen (and heard) for free here.

Taking the form of a record shop, electronic music and design label Raster Noton have produced an installation which will present an archive of their publications, music albums, and other work over the past 10 years of their operations for the public to peruse (though not to buy). Installed in the e-flux art network exhibition space, The Shop will be lit up with White Line Light, an installation designed by Carsten Nicolai and Olaf Bender made of handmade, neon gas-filled tubes that react to Raster Noton compositions being played in the space. The opening will feature a performance by Nicolai (Alva Noto) and Bender (Byetone) 26 May 7-9PM, NYC e-flux, 41 Essex Street, lower level.
